Adjustments For Effective Water Butts

Ah the vagaries of an English summer . . . .  one minute hot sunshine and within a whisper, the clouds come and it’s freezing again.   However with the massive climate changes, we definitely aren’t getting the amount of rain we have generally been used to.  This makes the saving of water an imperative for a lot of the year.  Yes, it’s true that in some parts of the country we have bewildering extremes of flooding to contradict this but on the whole, we do need to limit frivolous use of this precious comodity.  I talked previously about fitting twin water bins for this purpose but now two months later, I realises this wasn’t so helpful and moved the 2nd bin  & attached its diverter valve into the remaining downpipe at the side of the house.  So I now have the original 350 litre butt and two 100 litres each.  In order to make the most of downpours, I will fill all my watering cans from the smaller butts to leave as much empty capacity as I can for the precious downpours!
