Getting The Balance of Bird Feeding Absolutely Right

Getting The Balance of Bird Feeding Absolutely Right

I like looking out of my patio door onto the garden from my L shaped kitchen;  I have a very comfortable sofa one side and an ottoman seat the other.  This means I can see the woodland garden on one side and the rose garden and sunny patio area at the top of the other side.  In fact if I could get the fragrance in with the view, that would be perfect.   However, this is not possible yet, so I am thinking about how to tidy up the rugby ball shaped bed beneath a very sweet little crab apple tree.  I have several bird feeding apparatus these days hanging from the tree, including ultimate fat balls, a small peanut hanger next door.  At the front of the tree are hangers containing white sunflower hearts and black sunflower hearts – rather irritatingly, the birds were all wanting the black ones at one point, when I had only white.  Then when I changed to the black, they little blighters only wanted white!   The feeding frenzy is so noisy and exciting – but once the starlings and blackbirds have had their pickings, the smaller visitors come, ranging from tits to robins and the odd chaffinch.  Such joy!
