Lenten & Christmas . . A Rose By Any Other Name

Lenten & Christmas . . A Rose By Any Other Name

As I look out on to my garden in this late spring afternoon, I can see the exciting little tell tale signs that spring proper is on its way.  There are bright green shoots opping up everywhere.  I love the little freen shoots popping up everywhere showing that springtide is definitely approaching.  The bulbs are showing great promise too – little bobbles of hyacinth craning their way through luscious thick leaves.  From my desk I can see pink and blue, together with hundreds of hellebores.  These magnificent flowers are held aloft above spikey wax leaves that have almost serated edged but are excellent for displays.  Those flowers, referred to as Lenten Roses and Christmas Roses due to their efforts in the blooming department at critical times in the yearly calender.   They are the same blooms but have two names.  So reliable and if novic gardeners can only afford a couple of plants, then I would suggest buyig 2 different hellebores as they are asolutely hardy, live for ever and propogate easily.
