Knowing Your Crab Apple Pruning & Tidying

There is nothing more precious than a tree when you’re out on a hot walk – well apart from the cooling spray of water, but for shade and just making you appreciate Mother Nature at her best, a well shaped and gnarled tree with lots of greenery adorning her branches is just the thing.   You can see trees from a long way off and they just give that feeling of being outside and free!  I have a nice little crab apple in my garden – it’s a very pretty shape, especially now that the chap who helps me and is grandly referred to as ‘my gardener’ has manfully stood aloft the step ladder and with very tough tree loppers reshaped the mass of growth sprouting from every direction.  He knows a thing or two about trees and the essential pruning and thinning took very little time – it was the rest of the reshaping that he spent ages on.  But now, a year or two later, the result is a beautiful ornament adorning a rugby ball shaped bed near the back border.
