Dealing With Storms & Flooded Gardens

We’ve had the most unbelievable storms of late – of the strength usually expected in the US.  All these storms are given names, working alphabetically.    I’m not at all sure how this system works – we seem to be always in the first quarter of the alphabet each time.  At least I don’t recall a Storm or Hurricane Wendy or Zacharia.   Having these hefty weather upsets is difficult to deal with.  Every garden needs a certai amount of sun, wind and rain but the last few days have provided the last two of these in such incredible excesses, we have had completely swamped gardens and uprooted trees.  Obviously when the weather is truly awful, there is danger to be had if we wander about outside anyway.  But even without that, the damage we can infict on lawns and flower borders by stepping heavily onto previously compacted soil is immeasurable.  The only way to deal with this situation is to not panic, not walk on any part of the flooded garden and just let nature take its course.
