A Tree Is A Delight In Any Other Land

We have a wonderful selection of trees in this country.  It’s one of the things I miss most when I travel anywhere else.  In fact, I was born in a very green and leafy county, well known for avenues of trees around the towns and villages.  When I moved up north west for a couple of  years, I had an overwhelming sense of loss as there were so few trees about.  I obviousky chose the wrong part of the north to reside – lots of moorlands but no forests or woods.   I also find it hard when I go to stay in Paphos – there are trees over there but not the ofamiliar oaks, elms, ash I’m used to.  They do however have very old olive trees in each village.  There has been a movement to tidy these up and each one now sports a very beautiful low stone wall – which protects the tree.  Some of the olive trees are over 1000 years old.  They have fantastically gnarled & twisted trunks that look like something out of Grimms fairy tales but are beautiful nonetheless.
